Infiniti G20
Drive wheels: Front. Reliability: Exceptional.
Overview: This Japanese model feels like a good European sport sedan--nimble and supple. Introduced in 1991, it came with lots of standard equipment, including antilock brakes. The 2.0-liter Four was both responsive and economical. The automatic transmission shifted smoothly. We liked the manual, too. The ride was firm but not punishing. The front seats gave excellent support. The G20t (for "touring") arrived for 1994 and added a limited-slip differential and a fold-down rear seatback. The G20 was discontinued after 1996, but revived for 1999. The new G20 offered subpar performance and had lost its nimble handling.
Safety equipment: Driver and passenger air bags standard starting in 1994. Side air bags standard in 1999. ABS standard. Safety-beltpretensioners standard starting in 1994.
